Architect. Developer. Trusted Advisor. Richard Loring guides individuals, families, and organizations through the complexity of building — before expensive mistakes are made.
"The most expensive thing in construction is trust lost — and the most valuable thing I can give you is clarity before you spend a dollar in the wrong direction."
Richard J. Loring is one of Los Angeles' most accomplished developer-architects — a man who has built not just buildings, but communities. Over 45 years, he has navigated every dimension of construction: residential, commercial, multifamily, and international projects spanning the West Coast, East Coast, and Israel.
He founded Archetype, a respected general contracting firm where he executed some of LA's most notable contemporary buildings over 26 years. He then served as Managing Director of the Habitat Group Los Angeles, developing award-winning multifamily projects covered in The New York Times, Dwell, and Architectural Record.
A recipient of multiple AIA awards at local, state, and national levels, Richard has spoken at conferences on design, sustainability, and environmental issues across California. He is a man who reads voraciously, walks with intention, and leads with a calm authority that only comes from having truly seen it all.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan — a place that taught him about hard work and community — Richard brings that Midwestern sincerity to every relationship he builds, personally and professionally.
Four decades of hard-won knowledge — now available to guide your project before you make the mistakes that cost millions.
Strategic guidance before a single dollar is committed. Richard helps you understand exactly what you're walking into.
Most clients don't know how to manage builders. Richard sits in your corner and makes sure the right things happen.
For investors, entrepreneurs, and developers — especially those newer to the industry — charting a clear, defensible path forward.
A focused 90-minute consultation where Richard gives you what most people spend months trying to figure out on their own: a clear-eyed assessment of your project, the risks you don't know about yet, and a concrete path forward.
Richard Loring's greatest construction project has never been a building — it's been the lives he's helped build. For over 15 years, he has been one of the most devoted members of Peace4Kids, a Los Angeles nonprofit serving youth in foster care.
As a long-standing board member and major donor, Richard brings the same strategic clarity to Peace4Kids that he brings to every development project: compassion grounded in action. He has opened doors — literally and figuratively — offering transitional housing to young adults aging out of the foster system.
He carries a particular commitment to supporting women, especially those from marginalized communities, in accessing opportunities in construction, development, and entrepreneurship. He believes expertise should never be gatekept.
This is who Richard is beyond the blueprints: a man whose doctor once said he carries the heart of a seven-year-old. Still curious. Still giving. Still building.
Whether you're breaking ground on your first project or navigating a complex development, Richard brings the experience that changes outcomes.
